Helen Ruth Irvin, 86 formerly of Howard, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte. She was born in Yarnell on April 14, 1927, a daughter of the late Henry Fred and Zola Decker Kessling. On July 5, 1946, she married Archie Irvin who passed May 13, 1998.

Helen was head cook for Penn State Food Services for many years. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Brotherhood Park Ladies Auxillary. In her younger years, she was a member of the Bald Eagle P.T.A.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and cooking and enjoyed being around people.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Jane Irvin Hupman (John) of Ocean City, Md., Evelyn "Jenny" Nordberg (Marty) of Bellefonte, and Theresa Irvin of Pleasant Gap, one son; David T. (Cecelia) of Runville, one sister; Mabel Etters, one brother; Clarence Kessling, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son; Clinton L. on October 12, 2008 and a grandson; Dustin Wert.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Howard with her grandson; Rev. Josh Fowler officiating. Burial will be at the Schencks Cemetery, Howard. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, August 14, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
