Russell Vance Rhoades, Sr. 87 of Howard, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, Pa. Russell was born on December 12, 1919 in Osceola Mills, the son of the late Edwin and Gertrude Beckwith Rhoades.
On December 12, 1944 he married Evelyin Amelia Lucas who survives at home. They have 6 children: Russell Rhoades Jr. and his wife Linda; Larry Rhoades and His wife Judy; Karen Runkle and her husband Terry; Kathy Gummo ahd her husband Ed; all living in Howard. Joanne Geisinger and her husband George from Pleasant Gap. He has 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He has one sister (Blanche) who resides in Loganton, and two brothers, Lloyd, who lives in Bellefonte and Edwin, who lives in Scranton. Preceding him in death were his mother, father, two brothers (William and Sanford), three sisters (Cora, Aggie and Hazel).
Russell was a member of the CCC and he was a World War II vet. He was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor Attack. He held various jobs in his lifetime.
He was a life-long member of the Fairview Union Church in Boggs Twp.
He enjoyed camping, mowing, the outdoors and loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home. 135 Main Street. Howard, Pa. Services will be Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with the Pastor Chris Pfleegor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions my be made to the Fairview Church in care of Judy Rhoades, 109 State Game Land Rd., Howard, Pa. 16841/

My heart goes out to your family at this time. He was such a wonderful man. Ive known him for 26 years and when ever I seen him anywhere he would come up and give me a hug.. He will be truely missed by all whos life he touched. May God Bless your family at this time and know hes watching over you as a guardian angel.. Love Sonja
