Barry E. Gates

Barry E. Gates 71, of Howard, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was born in Centre County on March 26, 1951, a son of the late Benjamin and Ernestine Powers Gates. 

Barry was a graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. On May 23, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mary McCartney who survives at their home. Barry was a truck driver and was employed for many years at Aqua Penn and Coca-Cola. He was a member of the Mt. Eagle Church of Christ. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and all types of sports, particularly watching P.S.U. Wrestling. He loved feeding the animals around his home and was an avid reader and quite the history buff.

Along with his wife he is survived by a son, Brian (Heather) Gates, two daughters, Heather (Jerry) Williard, and Rebecca (Joshua) Stiles, two sisters, Delores (Pete) Rider, and Norma (Skip) Etters, ten Grandchildren and six Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin, a brother, Ronald Lee, and a sister, Linda Bomboy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at the Mount Eagle Church of Christ, 276 Nursery Road, Howard, with Pastor Don Crane officiating. Friends will be received Friday, March 10th from 6-8 P.M. at the church. Burial will be at Eagle Cemetery.
