Charles “Sonny” William Comly Jr., 76 of rural Julian, passed away on Sunday, January 22nd at his residence.
Sonny was born in Bellefonte, PA on October 22, 1946, son of Charles Comly Sr. and Helen Spotts of Julian. He was a 1965 graduate of Bald Eagle Area HS and shortly after high school he served in the United States Army. In 1976 he married Susan Flick of Julian and together they had seven children. He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting and was an excellent pie baker. His most loved hobby was weightlifting and bodybuilding. Throughout his life Sonny competed in multiple shows and bodybuilding competitions and spent countless hours training others who had an interest in the sport. He never stopped using the gym and always encouraged others to do their best.
One of Sonny’s greatest accomplishments were his 7 children whom he was very proud of and loved immensely. Whomever met Sonny always had a lasting impression from his quick whit and humor. He loved to make everyone laugh.
Sonny is survived by his children, Charlie Rochelle (Eugene) Dubbs of Julian, Cristie Lykens of Bellefonte, Charles “Chip” (Jessica) Comly of Howard, Carney (Matthew) Whitehill of Spring Mills, Charlton Comly of Bellefonte, Cassidy (Cassandra) Comly of Howard, and Carlie (Jon) Emel of Bellefonte. He is also survived by his 19 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, many siblings, nieces, nephews, and his very special companions- Sharon Somers and best buddy Sparky who was always by his side. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joanne.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located on W Whitehall Rd. State College, Thursday the 26th at 10a.m. Burial service to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Julian.
