Dixie Lee Sullivan Shaw was born May 21, 1933 in the Braddock General Hospital, Braddock, PA and passed away December 17, 2022 at the age of 89. She is survived by one sister, Judith Ann Lang of WV, the youngest of 13 children of Mary Edith (Hodges) Sullivan and William Thomas Sullivan. Dixie was of the Lutheran faith, worked for many years at Great Lakes Cheese in Hiram, Ohio, retired in the 90s, and then settled in PA in 1997 to be near her niece Mary Wheeler following the death of Dixie's sister and Mary's mother Betty June Wheeler.
Dixie and Mary became very close in the following years. Dixie's niece, Linda, and her husband Bob Ostojic Pierce visited Dixie regularly from Maryland, making for very welcome and happy occasions. Dixie had many other nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
Dixie was very opinionated, spunky and blunt, speaking her mind fearlessly. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, her Miller Highlife and her own macaroni and cheese. She also loved her country, serving proudly in the Honor Guard at her local American Legion and attending funerals as US Flag-bearer. She also belonged to Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW Auxiliary. In her final years, Dixie was tended with loving care by all of the staff at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home, whose exceptional kindness was greatly appreciated by her family.
Dixie requested no services, preferring a simple cremation and burial of her ashes at Schencks Cemetery.
