Fay A. (Houser) Stem, 86, of Howard passed away on December 6th, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center. Fay was born on February 14th, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Houser and Gladys (Billett) Houser.
During her working years, she was employed by Sears at the Nittany Mall. In 1950, she married her beloved husband Charles W. Stem, who survives at home. On July 5th, 2020, they celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Fay was a loving and giving wife, mother, Nan, and friend who enjoyed crocheting, listening to George Strait, and watching hummingbirds on her front porch. She loved her favorite sports teams: the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Dallas Cowboys, but most of all Fay enjoyed outings and trips to the beach with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Kathy Stem of Howard, Thomas (Pamela) Stem of Willow Street, and Diane (Troy) Gates of Howard, her grandchildren Ashlee (Steve) Oliver, Alexis (Brian) Harr, Torylynne (Tyler) Quick, Cory Gates, Cody Harmes, Oliver Stem, and Elijah Stem, six great-grandchildren, Mason, Peter, Madelynne, Anna, Colvin, and Cameron, and 1 sister, Larue Smith. She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet King, and a brother, Harold Houser.
She will fondly be remembered for her card and board game playing, laugh until you cry fun, and feisty can-do attitude. Lastly, if you happen to be one of the many friends or family members who was gifted a homemade crocheted afghan made by Fay, be sure to wrap yourself in it knowing the blanket was made with love, kindness, and precision. We will miss her dearly, but her “gifts” will always be here to surround us in her love. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
