Leona (Glenn) Foore

February 24, 1943 ~ February 3, 2021 (age 77)

Obituary

Leona (Glenn) Foore, 77 (Feb 24, 1943 – Feb 1, 2021), died peacefully at her home in State College.  Born in Jersey Shore, PA to the late Walter and Blanche (Gilbert) Glenn, she was a 1961 graduate of Susquenita High School, near Duncannon, and a 1965 graduate of Lycoming College.

She briefly taught elementary school in Bellefonte and Maryland, then ultimately settled with her family in Rochester, NY.  Having herself had breast cancer while in her 30’s, she subsequently owned a post- mastectomy apparel shop and provided tremendous support for her clients. In 2001, she moved to State College and worked at Mt Nittany Medical Center until her retirement.

Leona’s musical ability became evident in early childhood, and she played at invitational piano recitals in Harrisburg during high school. She had perfect pitch, and while a member of the Lycoming College Choir, she softly hummed the notes of the initial chord to tune the a cappella singers while the director was introducing each piece to the audience.  For more than 60 years, she was a church organist, most recently for the Pleasant Gap Methodist Church and University Baptist & Brethren Church in State College, and was quietly proud of having received a certificate of proficiency in organ performance from the Eastman School of Music.  She loved live musical performances, especially Renée Fleming, and volunteered at Eisenhower Auditorium.

Leona made good friends in the State College area, but also talked regularly with friends from college, high school, and even grade school. She enjoyed reading, doing crosswords, and going to the Adirondacks or to thebeach.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was a brother, Gilbert K Glenn.  She is survived by a son, Brady (Linda) Foore of Phoenixville; a brother, Jerry Glenn, of State College and California; three nieces and many cousins.  Leona once said that should would like Nessun Dorma to be sung at her funeral. “I would be halfway to heaven,” she added.

A service will be organized after the pandemic is controlled. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Susan G. Komen, 13770 Noel Rd., Suite 801899, Dallas, TX 75380 or another charity of your choice.
