Ray Lewis “Lew” Peters, 74, of Beech Creek, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the SusqueView Home in Lock Haven. Born on October 9, 1946, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Harvey R., and Grace V. (Rowe) Peters. On July 3, 1971, he married Patricia E. Jones, who survives at home.
Lew was a 1964 graduate of Bald Eagle-Nittany High School and a 1967 graduate of Williamson College of Trades. He enlisted in the United States Navy on September 15, 1967 and received his honorable discharge on December 8, 1970. Lew was stationed in Vietnam, Cuba, and Bermuda. He earned the rank of BU2 and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Service Metal for his years of service.
Lew worked for many years as a carpenter, first with Jack Jones and then with H.W. Raymond Co, Inc, until his retirement in 2012. He was a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher, food pantry volunteer, and for many years, portrayed a Pharisee in the annual Blanchard Church of Christ Easter Drama.
Along with his wife, Lew is survived by his two daughters: Amy B. Callahan of Locust Grove, VA and Suzanne L. Herr and her husband, Jason, of Harrisburg, PA and two granddaughters: Danielle & Kylie Callahan, both of Locust Grove, VA. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas S. Peters and his wife, Dianne, of Beech Creek.
Lew enjoyed spending time with his niece, Sandy Westerbaan and her husband, Norman and his two grandnieces: Hannah and Harper Westerbaan. He also appreciated nature, spending time gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 from 9-11am at the Blanchard Church of Christ in Blanchard. Funeral service will follow at 11am at the church with Rev. Russell Moldovan and Pastor Wally Kocher officiating. Burial will be at the Blanchard Church of Christ Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded. Lew’s family has requested that facial masks be worn for all indoor services.
