Shirley Lavone Workman Strunk passed peacefully from this life and arrived on Heaven’s shore on March 2, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Arthur McKinley and Goldie Grace Merrill Workman. She was born May 22, 1926 in Woolrich, Pennsylvania.
Shirley married the late Leroy W. Strunk on March 22, 1947.
Surviving are five children, Will (Carolyn), Donald (Sharon), Sherry, Casey (Wendy), and Phillip (Lesa). She is survived by her 10 grandchildren: Jared Strunk, Jason Strunk, Adam Nichols (Stephanie), Dena Falls (Benjamin), Lori Lindsey (Lee), Sarah Strunk, Phillip Strunk, Jr. (Laura Beth), Michaela DeChristopher (Jeffrey), Casey Strunk, Jr. (Marie) and Colin Strunk. She is also survived by 7 Great-Grand Children.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband on October 1, 2001. Gib and Shirl were married for 54 years when he passed. Shirley was also preceded in death by her daughter Lori Christine who passed on April 15, 1961, her parents: Arthur and Goldie Merrill Workman, three sister (Reba, Marjorie, Betty), and five brothers (Stiles, William, Richard, Arthur, Wayne). She is survived by a brother, Theodore Workman, and sister, Jean (Workman) Rafter.
During World War II, she was employed at Sylvania. Later she was employed with the PA Game Commission Nursery, Buttons Green House, and Camp Cook at Sylvan Hills Christian Service Camp.
She was a member of the Howard Christian Church (formerly the Walnut Church of Christ).
She was surrounded by her children at the time of her death. The family would like to thank the AseraCare Hospice for their faithful service during the last few weeks. We would especially like to thank Dan, Sherry and Carol for their time and service and loving care.
A Celebration Service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Friends will be welcomed from 10-11 am followed by the service at Kader-Neff Funeral Home on Main Street, Howard. Brother Mark Riley will officiate. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Howard Christian Church (Walnut Street) and/or AseraCare Hospice (1015 Logan Blvd., Altoona, Pa 16602).
