Nevin R Fillmore

July 10, 1936 ~ October 9, 2021 (age 85)

Obituary

Nevin R Fillmore, 85, formerly of Flemington, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2121, at the Susque View Nursing Home in Lock Haven. Born on July 10, 1936, in York, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph S. and Meda (Tome) Fillmore. He married Mary Louise Walsh who survives in Lock Haven.

Nevin graduated high school in York before entering the US Army. He received his honorable discharge for his active service and then became a recruiter for many years. After his military service, he worked at the Champion Company in Beech Creek as a laborer and then went to work as a forklift operator at the Hammermill in Lock Haven, where he retired after many years of service.

Nevin was of the protestant faith. He enjoyed hunting, watching football and baseball, especially the Yankees. He loved the outdoors and was a diehard turkey hunter. When deer season came along, you could find him putting in the woods in his truck, road hunting and he always had a large chew of tobacco in his mouth. He would stop at a camp, go in, tell a few "stories", and then more to the next camp, tell the same "stories", then go to the next camp and start over again. His "stories" would get bigger and taller each time. The guys at the camps loved his "stories".

If he wasn't in the woods, you could find Nevin in the mornings at Miller Brothers, have coffee and donuts, and yes telling "stories". He also would sell eggs and gun raffle tickets to anyone. He would go door to door in his neighborhood and sell the gun raffle tickets.

He had a special relationship with his nephew, Jeff, and the entire Hanley family. Now, Nevin has joined his loving companion, Pammy, the Lab. Retriever, in heaven. They are walking through the woods and enjoying all the wildlife.

One of the favorite things Nevin like to do was to take his wife out to eat on a Friday night and then stop at Jeff's house. They would sit on the back deck, watch the wildlife, and of course tell "stories".

Nevin is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, of Lock Haven, daughter in-law, Ev Hanley of WY, two grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his nephew, Jeff Hanley and his girlfriend, Penny Stabley, of Beech Creek.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Hanley, a sister, Vada M Fife, and a brother in-law, Richard "Dick" Fife.
