Ronald J. Smith, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 13, joining his wife of forty-nine years, Ann, who preceded him in death in 2015. He was born on July 16, 1933 to Clark and Helen Smith in Jefferson County, PA. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter, Donald, David and Dan as well as a sister Arlene. His sister Ruth Shaffer is his only surviving sibling.
Ron worked as a self-employed logger for forty years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, killing his last deer just two weeks before his death. He was veteran during the Korean conflict stationed in France. He was also a faithful member of the Orviston Bible Church for many years.
Ron loved his family and is survived by his children Lana Lomison, Ronnie Smith, and Angie Toner (Kevin). He is also survived by grandchildren Derrick Smith (Mayra), Darci Spicer (Elmer), and Max Toner. In addition, he had four great-grandchildren: Jackson and Lincoln Smith as well as Landyn and Nolan Spicer. Ron has one surviving sister Ruth Shaffer from Punxsutawney.
Funeral services will be at the Kader-Neff funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 19. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m with the Rev. Karl G. Steele officiating. CDC guidelines will be followed.
